Scary Stories: Thrills and Chills

This acting intensive for narrators will focus on the genre of fiction thriller, including the various subgenres, crime, horror, and detective fiction.

  • In thriller and horror, how do we elicit mood, suspense, and action?

  • How do we create credible characters going through extreme circumstances?

  • How do we keep our narration intimate and connected in a car chase or a kidnapping, for instance?

  • How do we empathize with and humanize villains?

  • How can we heighten the stakes of the story and our characters?

We will explore techniques to create suspense, drive , surprise, and excitement with a particular focus on literary devices used in thrillers. Scenes will be provided and, as always, everyone will have an opportunity to read with direction.
